Carnitas are not something I ever expected to be making in the Crock Pot. But when I found a Pork Carnitas Street Tacos seasoning packet at Walmart, I knew I had to try it. The best part is that because you can find pre-cut pork shoulder already on a tray, there’s no need to buy more than you need! One tray is the perfect size for 1-2 people. For the family-size recipe, click here. Let me just say, they were DELICIOUS! Here’s what you need:
Ingredients
1.5 lb Carnitas pork tray (Walmart pre-cuts the pork shoulder specifically for carnitas)
1 packet McCormick Street Taco Pork Carnitas seasoning packet
Topping Options:
Fresh Cilantro
Fresco cheese crumbles
Red onion, chopped
Lime wedges
Avocado chunks
Directions
1. Put half of the tray of pork carnitas in a 2 qt. Crock Pot. Put the other half in a quart size freezer bag.
2. Sprinkle 1 1/2 Tbsp. seasoning over the pork in the Crock Pot. Toss to coat. 3. Sprinkle the rest of the seasoning packet over the pork in the quart freezer bag. Toss to coat. The bag goes in the freezer and can be used later!
4. Cover and cook on low for 8-9 hours or on high for 4-5 hours. Shred and serve on taco soft shells.
